Register NFT artwork in blockchain token is growing fast in the distribution of artwork and minting in the crypto blockchain. It’s exciting to see blockchain technology applied to registering and transferring ownership of fantastic artwork on a decentralized digital ledger. The artworks span from the simple to the complex, from the utilitarian to the cosmetic, and from the individual to the corporate, so anyone can be a participant in this marketplace.
After reading numerous nft artist and buyer interviews, I have found that many users register nft artwork in blockchain token technology are not quite yet fully understanding the metadata standards. It’s very important to know exactly where the original artwork resides as it validates the metadata information as a working standard. URL hyperlinks are the usual way of stating where the nft artwork resides, which leads to the number one problem in metadata information. Eventually, for many reasons, the url leads to a 404 error page due to that resource being relocated or becoming permanently unavailable.
The 404 page is actually a simple web page stating that the page or file is not found at that url location. The hyperlink actually leads to nowhere valid in the internet universe, or is unusable because the web server will not allow any user to browse the url directory for obvious security reasons. Hence, a phenomenon called Link Rot has developed, where hyperlinks tend over time to cease to point to their original target file.

We are also familiar with and understand the IPFS protocol by Protocol Labs with its research in Filecoin. We believe a HTTPS, DNS and IPFS technologies can be combined together to prevent link rot and validate metadata information in an NFT.
We are continuing this research and will develop a schema consisting of a combination of IPFS, DNS, and HTTPS by the end of year that will be implemented through the chipsxp.com web server. Once this technology is deployed, we will demonstrate the combination of opensea.io, sketchfab.com, and TLDs to link, maintain, validate metadata information of NFT artwork for an extremely long period of time.
